Salted Maple Pepitas
Salty, sweet, crunchy- a perfect snack wherever you roam. Make in advance to pack along, or on the trail for a treat!
Ingredients:
2 C Pepitas/ Pumpkin Seeds
3 TBSP Embark Salted Maple Energy (1/2 3oz Pouch)
Camp Kitchen Instructions:
Pre-heat your skillet over your fire to a nice medium heat.
Add pepitas and stir until fragrant.
Add Embark Salted Maple and stir until pepitas don’t stick together. You will notice the syrup coating goes from glossy to matte as the sugars crystalize- this is time to remove them from heat.
Let pepitas cool and enjoy as a fuel-rich snack, oatmeal addition or ice cream/ yogurt topping!
Make Ahead Oven Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
In a bowl mix pepitas and Embark Salted Maple until everything is coated.
Spread out coated pepitas on a greased baking pan and put in the oven for 10 minutes.
Every three minutes, flip pepitas so they evenly toasted
Remove from oven after 10 minutes. The pepitas will be soft and spongy when you take them out. Let them sit for ten more minutes to cool and dry. To turn them into pepita chips, let them sit for 20 minutes until completely cooled and break them off into chips.
Put in your favorite snack pouch and enjoy on the trail!
Notes
This recipe works well with nuts and sunflower seeds as well! Spice things up by adding a dash of your favorite seasonings right after the maple is added- cayenne? cinnamon? The possibilities are endless!
